Medical examiner from Travon Martin case fired

Shiping Bao was the associate medical examiner for the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office in Florida. Officials say Bao was fired last week, but Bao has given indications of a lawsuit. In the letter of termination that Authorities provided, Bao was given the option to resign, and when he didn’t, he was terminated. Bao had his lawyer file a complaint against the county. An excerpt from the letter states: “This is a formal request to ask you to preserve any and all document…and/or evidence related to Dr. Bao’s claims and/or the Trayvon Martin Case.”

Bao performed the autopsy on Trayvon Martin, after George Zimmerman shot the 17-year-old. During Zimmerman’s trial, Bao kept changing his answers to certain questions like, how long had Martin survived after he was shot? And did Martin’s use of marijuana affect his judgment? These were important details in the trial, and Bao’s indecisiveness raised concerns.

Willie Gary, Bao’s attorney, will supposedly file a lawsuit on the grounds of discrimination, job harassment and wrongful termination.
