The trial of a former University of Virginia lacrosse player, George Huguely, is expected to begin on Monday in Virginia. Huguely faces first-degree murder charges in the fatal beating and death of his ex-girlfriend in May 2010. Yeardley Love was a 22-year-old senior who was also a lacrosse player. Lisa Reeves, a Charlottesville Police Detective, wrote in a statement that “George Huguely admitted on May 3, 2010 that he was involved in an altercation with Yeardly Love and that during the course of the altercation he shook Love and her head repeatedly hit the wall.”

Reeves reported that Love had “a large bruise on the right side of her face which appears to have been caused by blunt force trauma,” which killed her. Love was found face-down in a pool of blood. The trial is expected to last for two weeks.
