24-year-old Greg Merson of Laurel, MD, outlasted and outplayed the competition at the 2012 World Series of Poker main event. The title comes with $8.53 million in winnings and prestige among the top names in poker worldwide.
Merson’s win comes less than a week before Marylanders vote on a gambling expansion proposal that will allow table games at Maryland casinos among other changes to current statutes.
