A Maryland woman charged with running over and dragging U.S. Senate candidate Natasha Pettigrew to her death in September 2010 with her vehicle has been found guilty. Christy Littleford, 43, was found guilty on multiple charges for hitting and killing Pettigrew in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Pettigrew was a Green Party candidate for the U.S. Senate and was riding her bike on Route 202 when she was hit.
According to police, Littleford drove four miles after hitting Pettigrew with her SUV. Littleford told officers she didn’t stop because she thought she hit a deer or a dog and called police when she got home. On Thursday evening, a jury in Prince George’s County found Littleford guilty of failure to remain at the scene of an accident that resulted in bodily harm, failure to remain at the scene of an accident that resulted in death, failure to render assistance, and negligent driving. She is scheduled for sentencing in August and could face up to 10 years in prison.
