Maryland – Trial continues for officer in Gray case

0

The trial of Officer Edward Nero continued Monday with defense witness testimony. Nero is charged with assault, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment after the death of Freddie Gray in April 2015. Prosecutors say Nero and two other officers failed to buckle Gray into a seat belt after illegally arresting him, resulting in a critical spinal injury and ultimately his death a week later. The defense says Nero wasn’t the arresting officer when Gray was arrested and that it is the job of the wagon driver to ensure prisoners are buckled properly. The first witness called by the defense was former Baltimore commander Timothy Longo.
