Serena Williams has made a new apology for comments concerning the victim in the Steubenville, Ohio rape case. Williams called her comments “insensitive and misinformed”.

In an interview done by Rolling Stone, Williams commented that the 16-year-old victim “shouldn’t have put herself in that position.” The following day, Williams apologized in a statement. She also apologized during a news conference on Sunday.

On Monday night, Williams released another statement on her website saying she wanted to “extend an apology to the millions of sexual assault victims in America whose pain could have been compounded by my inappropriate remarks.” She wrote that sexual assault “is never acceptable and never the fault of the victim.”

Williams is scheduled to play her first-round match at Wimbledon on Tuesday.
