Cancer awareness award presented to Fitzgerald

Wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals, Larry Fitzgerald, is the recipient of the NFL Players Association Georgetown Lombardi Award for his part in the cancer awareness campaign.

The award was created to acknowledge leaders in the sports industry whose lives have been affected by cancer and who promote cancer awareness through various platforms. It is named in honor of Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi, who died of cancer.

Fitzgerald aided in creating the Carol Fitzgerald Fund in honor of his mother who died from breast cancer and also hosts and sponsors celebrity fundraisers to raise money for treatments, patients, and cancer research.
