After retiring from the “The View” in 2014, pioneering broadcast journalist and television personality Barbara Walters is returning to television. Investigation Discovery network announced on Tuesday that Walters will present “American Scandal,” a six-part series that looks back on the infamous crimes she covered throughout her illustrious career. In the new series, she will revisit cases involving Jean Harris, the former girls’ school headmistress convicted of the murder of her ex-lover Herman Tarnower, Mary Kay Letourneau, a suburban Seattle teacher convicted of raping a 12-year-old student, disgraced televangelist Jim Bakker, and John Lennon killer Mark David Chapman. The series promises “new details” about the crimes “revealed by those closest” to the leading figures, according to Investigation Discovery’s summary. The announcement did not include scheduling details. She joins broadcast news veterans Paula Zahn, Tamron Hall, Chris Hansen and John Quinones who do work for the ID network.
