A damaged Pepco pipeline has spilled thousands of gallons of mineral oil into Rock Creek Park, officials say. Pepco spokesperson Sean Kelley states that the non-toxic oil was used to insulate underground cables, and that the pipeline was damaged by an unaffiliated contractor. The leak was deemed by officials as “no cause for major concern” after traces of oil were found in Rock Creek. Repairs are likely to take weeks, and three lanes of Klingle Road and the bridge over Rock Creek Park are expected to remain closed until Tuesday
