On Thursday, Metro’s chief safety officer, James Dougherty, resigned following a board meeting addressing the August 6th train derailment near the Smithsonian. Interim General Manager Jack Requa issued a statement stating that he had accepted Dougherty’s resignation after a Metro board meeting. Requa has named Deputy Chief Safety Officer Louis Brown as the acting chief safety officer while they search for Dougherty’s replacement.
