On Monday, Google honored legendary actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr on its homescreen. The actress is well-known for her role in Cecil DeMille’s “Samson and Delilah,” but was also very accomplished as an innovator. Lamarr teamed with composer George Antheil to create a system to prevent the Nazis during World War II from blocking signals from radio-controlled Allied torpedoes. Lamarr, who died in 2000, was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame with Antheil in 2014.
