Fewer people going to prison in Maryland in 10 years

According to an analysis by The Pew Charitable Trusts, Maryland prison admissions have decreased by 19 percent over the last decade. Maryland’s overall prison population has declined by about 5 percent. Pew is gathering data for a state panel that is aiming to reduce spending on corrections. The report also found that prisoners are serving an average of nine months after they become eligible for parole. Senator Nathaniel McFadden has suggested that releasing them for parole earlier could result in large savings.
