In a 2-1 decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia circuit ruled that the city could not ban owners from registering more than one firearm a year, or re-register a gun every three years. However, the court did uphold other parts of laws, including requisites that “long guns,” or rifles and shotguns, be registered with handguns in a process that allows gun owners to be fingerprinted and photographed. In all, the court upheld six gun safety laws.
