New court documents show that the prisoner who escaped from a Fairfax County hospital in March is looking to withdraw his guilty plea. Woosen Assaye led police on a huge manhunt after his escape and was scheduled to be sentenced to at least 32 years in prison on Friday. However, his lawyers say that Assaye told them this week that he is seeking to withdraw the guilty plea he entered in July. The motion asks the court to delay sentencing in the case, citing “potential ineffective assistance of counsel, and involuntarily entered guilty plea, and an unknowing plea” as grounds for such a retraction.
