Clinton is now only slightly more favorable than Republican opponent Donald Trump, whose favorability rating is at 36 percent with 59 percent of Americans viewing him unfavorably. Some of the stars joining the cause and Mayor Muriel Bowser include Elizabeth Banks, Tim Daly, Josh Gad, Ashley Judd and David Schwimmer and others. Bowser’s administration is putting a statehood referendum on the fall ballot so residents can vote on whether to send a constitution for the proposed new state to Congress. However, even if the referendum passes, Congress will have no obligation to act, and many consider statehood to be an impossible goal.
