Trump and Clinton top the Iowa polls with slim margins

With the Iowa caucuses in 24 hours, Donald Trump has increased his slight lead in Iowa polls over his primary opponent, Ted Cruz. In a recent poll, Trump was projected to receive 28% of support from likely Iowa caucus voters, while Cruz was projected to receive 23%. The margin between the two main democratic candidates, Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, is even smaller at 42% and 45% respectfully. Iowans will gather in town halls, gymnasiums, libraries and many other venues to caucus for their presidential candidates on Monday.

Vietnamese jail escapees in California captured

On January 22, three inmates escaped from an Orange County maximum security prison. While one escapee, Bac Duond, 43, surrendered on Friday, the other two remained on the loose until yesterday. Hossein Nayeri, 37, and Jonathon Tieu, 20, were apprehended in San Francisco’s Park District about 375 miles north of the Orange County Prison after the police received a tip from a man who noticed the fugitive’s stolen van in a parking lot. Nayeri is believed to have been the mastermind behind the prison break.

Metro seeking witnesses after teens harass passengers

Metro officials are currently looking for witnesses to a large group of teen’s harassment. Police received a call around 4:40pm on Thursday reporting a group of approximately 20 teenagers who were allegedly yelling, teasing and antagonizing passengers after they boarded a train headed to Shady Grove. There are reports the teens grabbed items from passengers, and television station WRC-TV reports teens began to beat a man.

VIRGINIA

Lockdown at Powhatan prison

The reception and classification center at Powhatan prison has been on lockdown for more than two weeks. The lockdown was prompted after law enforcement foiled a plot to smuggle contraband into Powhatan which included weapons and ammunition. During a lockdown, prisoners are not allowed to work or have visitors. The entire facility has been searched, and while ammunition was found, no guns have yet been reported.

Thousands plunge into the icy Chesapeake Bay for Special Olympics

Thousands of people dove into the cold Chesapeake Bay yesterday for the 20th annual Polar Bear Plunge. The plunge sought to raise money for the Special Olympics. Most participants raised around $75 for their winter swim, but some “super plungers” raised thousands of dollars and dove into the icy water dozens of times.
