Obama embarks on a new effort to promote his health care law

Beginning with an event at the White House on Tuesday, President Obama will start a new campaign to rally support for the Affordable Care Act. Months of criticism over the poor performance of the health care website have given the entire Obamacare initiative a bad reputation, and now the administration wants to highlight the positive things that have resulted from the program.

On Tuesday, Obama will be joined by a group of people who have benefitted from the Affordable Care Act, and he will discuss its positive features like a ban on insurance discrimination against people with pre-existing health conditions. He will then mention improvements to the website, which have greatly increased the number of people that can access the website without causing the system to stall. Former administration official Jeffrey Zients reports that the website can now handle 800,000 visitors a day.

Overall, this new campaign will be centered around the people that have found relief and guidance in the new health care program. “While work continues on the website, we think it is important that proponents of health reform undertake a renewed effort to refocus the public on the benefits of the law that have already been implemented,” said a White House official.
