Obama administration making efforts to expand health-care workforce

On Monday, the Obama administration will announce as much as $1 billion towards hiring, training and deploying health-care workers. The measure marks the next part of Obama’s “We Can’t Wait” outline to boost the economy, and is another component of Obama’s larger jobs bill, which stalled in Congress. Funds would go towards different ways to expand the health-care workforce while reducing the cost of delivering care.

Health-care employment has been higher than in other areas, according to the Bureau of Labor statistics, but even with 300,000 jobs created in the last year, the country could face a doctor shortage. The Association of American Medical Colleges predicts the U.S. will have 63,000 fewer doctors than it needs by 2015.
