George Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie Zimmerman, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon for reportedly lying under oath at his bond hearing about the couple’s finances. At her husband’s bond hearing on April 20, Shellie Zimmerman was asked if the couple had the financial means to assist in the defense. According to an affidavit filed on Monday, she replied, “Uhm, not — not that I’m aware of.” She also testified under oath that she and her husband were indigent. Shellie Zimmerman claims she was not aware of how much money had been raised from a website in George Zimmerman’s defense for the February 26, murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida, in which 28-year-old Zimmerman claims he acted in self-defense.

According to Jackie Barnard, spokeswoman for the State Attorney’s office for the Fourth Judicial District of Florida, Shellie Zimmerman, 25, has been charged with perjury. She met conditions for a $1,000 bond and was released in the late afternoon on Tuesday, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office says. George Zimmerman remains in jail after Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. revoked his bond. He is charged with murder in the second-degree for the fatal shooting of Martin.
