Monifa Denise Sanford, 21, and Zakieya Latrice Avery, 28, have been charged with murder in the death of Avery’s 1-year-old and 2-year-old children. They are also facing attempted murder charges for injuring two other of Avery’s children aged 5 and 6.
The children aged one and two suffered multiple stab wounds and both deaths have been classified as a homicide. The other two children remain hospitalized. An investigation into this crime is continuing, while police say the home has a history of violence. Montgomery County police say the women believed they were preforming an exorcism. Both Sanford and Avery are facing two counts of first degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
