A former Prince George’s County housing director, James Johnson, has been sentenced to three years in prison for his role in a corruption plan involving former county executive Jack Johnson, who served as a state attorney in Prince George’s County before becoming a county executive. James Johnson is unrelated to Jack Johnson, who is currently serving a sentence of more than seven years for extorting several hundred thousand dollars in bribes from developers and accepting gifts. His wife, Leslie Johnson, is serving a sentence of one year.

The 67-year-old James Johnson was sentenced on Monday in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt, Maryland. He pleaded guilty in his role for asking and accepting tens of thousands of dollars in bribes from developers. In court, The Washington Post reported that Johnson said he made a “terrible mistake” that he will always regret. James Johnson is due to report to prison in June.
