At the 54th GRAMMY Awards celebration, musicians mourned the loss of a musical genius, Whitney Houston, who created the soundtrack to many of their lives. Host LL Cool J opened the ceremony with a prayer for Houston, 48, and her close relatives, stating that the musical industry had lost a “family member.” Later in the broadcast, Stevie Wonder played the harmonica for Houston and introduced Jennifer Hudson. In honor of her idol, Hudson sang a rendition of Houston’s spine chilling hit “I Will Always Love You” and received a standing ovation. Chaka Khan was also due to perform a song for Houston, but was unable to do so for personal reasons.

Great Britain’s golden voice, Adele Atkins, took the American music show by storm, winning six of the GRAMMY Awards she was nominated for. The British songstress won for Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Short Form Music Video, and Album of the Year. In acceptance of Album of the Year, Adele said, “This record is really inspired by what just about everyone has gone through. A rubbish relationship.” She also sang her winning song “Rolling in the Deep” with her big voice that she was forced to keep silenced for four months due to vocal cord healing.
