BEVERLY HILLS, CA –AP has confirmed that legendary singer Whitney Houston has died. In Beverly Hills, California on Saturday, police received an emergency call from the fourth floor of the Beverly Hilton Hotel in an attempt to revive Houston, who was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. PST. She was 48.

Houston, an artist of unprecedented talent, was born in 1963 in Newark, New Jersey, and began exploring her musical talent in the church. The entertainer was inspired by several prominent soul singers in her family, which include her mother, Cissy Houston, cousin Dionne Warwick, and godmother Aretha Franklin. Clive Davis, an American record producer, discovered and signed Houston to Arista Records in 1983. Houston scored seven straight number one hits and has sold over 170 million records around the globe. Some of Houston’s legendary songs include “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” “How Will I Know,” and the chart topper,“I Will Always Love You,” which was the lead song from her romantic-thriller “The Body Guard.”

Houston struggled publicly with drug issues, but will be remembered for her angelic soul-filled voice. Houston leaves behind her 19-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown and ex-husband Bobby Brown.
