Washington, D.C. – 2 individuals were shot and killed in Washington, D.C. within 2 hours

A teen was shot and killed after leaving Dunbar High School located in Northwest Washington, D.C. on Tuesday. Acting Police Chief Pamela Smith said that the teen was shot around 3:45 p.m. and was transported to a hospital in the area where he was pronounced dead. Later around 4:45 p.m. while still on the scene of the teen’s shooting, officers responded to another report of a shooting.  A man “caught in the crossfire of two vehicles shooting at each other” had been shot and died from his injuries at the scene.

Following these two homicides, Washington, D.C. has surpassed 200 homicides in 2023. There were a total of 203 homicides by the end of 2022 according to District Crime Data at a Glance report by the Metropolitan Police Department. “The Metropolitan Police Department is committed to seeking justice on behalf of each of these victims and bringing closure to their loved ones,” said Smith during a news conference on Tuesday.
