Woman convicted of running an illegal assisted living facility

A woman who ran an illegitimate assisted living facility out of her own apartment has been convicted of abusing elderly and disabled adults. Thirty-three-year-old Zainab Kamara of Bladensburg was convicted on twenty-nine counts, including abuse of a vulnerable adult, false imprisonment, kidnapping and theft. She was convicted on Thursday in Prince George’s County Circuit Court. According to prosecutors, Kamara looked for people in homeless shelters, hospitals, and rehab facilities with nowhere else to go and promised to take care of them at an assisted living facility she said she operated. Once the victims were in her custody, she took them back to her apartment, where there was no heat and or food. Kamara also pilfered their cash and credit cards. She faces up to 176 years in prison at sentencing on May 8.
