Brigadier General Leonard Covington was born in Aquasco and died while leading the third brigade third brigade into the Battle of Crysler’s farm during the War of 1812. On Tuesday, a new historical roadside marker on Aquasco Road was unveiled in order to honor the hero. Historian Ralph Eshelman said the honor was overdue: “other states have recognized him, towns have been named after him, counties have been named after him, but here in Maryland, he’s a forgotten hero.”
