A new lawsuit claims immigration authorities in Louisiana allegedly unlawfully deported three American citizen children, including a 5-year-old boy battling Stage 4 kidney cancer, along with their mothers to Honduras. Filed by the National Immigration Project and several law firms, the case accuses ICE of violating due process by denying the parents access to attorneys and preventing them from arranging medical care or family custody for their children. The suit argues the deportations were carried out under duress and without legal justification, leaving the children stripped of protections guaranteed by their citizenship.
Federal officials dispute the allegations, saying parents were given the choice to either leave their children behind with designated caregivers or take them abroad. The Department of Homeland Security denied claims of medical neglect, stating treatment options were available in Honduras. Still, advocates say the families’ accounts reveal systemic abuses in U.S. deportation practices and highlight the human toll of enforcement policies. The plaintiffs are seeking damages, a jury trial, and the chance to return to the United States.
