Truist Financial Corporation, the third-largest bank in the D.C. region by deposits, announced plans to open 100 new branches and renovate more than 300 existing locations over the next five years. The expansion will target the Washington, D.C. area alongside other high-growth markets, including Atlanta, Charlotte, Austin, Dallas, Miami, Orlando, and Philadelphia.

The Charlotte-based bank says the initiative reflects its strategy to capture more retail wealth clients while enhancing its digital banking tools. Truist will also hire additional financial advisers as part of the rollout. “This significant investment demonstrates Truist’s continued commitment to grow with our clients at every step of their financial journeys,” said Chairman and CEO Bill Rogers.

Truist, formed by the 2019 merger of BB&T and SunTrust, currently operates about 170 branches in the D.C. market. It ranks No. 3 locally, behind Capital One and Bank of America, while competing nationally as the ninth-largest bank by deposits with $544 billion in assets. The expansion comes as rival banks, including Chase and Bank of America, also move to expand their footprints in the region.
