NATIONAL NEWS – Federal Court strikes down FTC’s ‘Click-to-Cancel’ rule

A U.S. federal appeals court has struck down the Federal Trade Commission’s “click-to-cancel” rule, which would have required companies to let consumers cancel subscriptions as easily as they signed up. The rule, set to take effect July 14, aimed to curb deceptive practices in negative option marketing but was vacated due to procedural issues during the FTC’s rulemaking process.
The decision is a major win for businesses opposing the rule and could force the FTC to restart its process. Consumer advocates and state officials, including New York Attorney General Letitia James, expressed concern over the ruling.
