NATIONAL NEWS – Trader Joe’s and Kroger to limit egg purchases as supply decreases

Grocery stores and consumers throughout the nation have experienced dramatic price increases associated with eggs. As supply becomes a larger issue, many retailers, including Kroger and Trader Joe’s, have begun to limit the number of eggs customers are allowed to purchase. Kroger and Trader Joe’s are just two of the many retailers that have fallen victim to rising egg prices due to the contaminated chicken supply caused by the outbreak of bird flu that has spread throughout the country. Trader Joe’s has introduced regulations that prevent people from buying more than two dozen eggs per day.
The store issued a statement saying, “We hope these limits will help ensure that as many of our customers who need eggs are able to purchase them when they visit Trader Joe’s.” A spokesperson for the company added later that, “The rule could be lifted when there are no issues with the supply.” Kroger has yet to implement purchasing limits on a national scale like Trader Joe’s; however, some of their divisions have implemented these rules. A spokesperson for Kroger stated, “In those divisions, the limits are two dozen per customer, per trip.”
