Gov. Hogan creates redistricting reform panel
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has implemented a committee to study redistricting and create a plan for reform. Critics like Hogan say that gerrymandered districts in Maryland have given Democrats an unfair advantage in elections. While there are two registered Democrats to every registered Republican in the state, only one of the eight Maryland seats in the U.S. House of Delegates is held by a Republican. The committee will recommend an amendment next month, which must be approved by three-fifths of the Democrat-led General Assembly to make it to the ballot. In the current system, the governor has control of redistricting, which occurs every 10 years.
