WHITE HOUSE NEWS – President Trump questions Norway’s finance minister about receiving Nobel Peace Prize during tariff call

President Donald Trump reportedly surprised Norway’s Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg during a July call by asking about the Nobel Peace Prize while also discussing trade tariffs. The unusual conversation, confirmed by a Norwegian government official, included U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. trade representative Jamieson Greer and served as preparation for Trump’s subsequent call with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Trump has publicly expressed frustration at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, which has historically been awarded to four previous U.S. presidents:  Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama. He has also been nominated by leaders from Israel, Pakistan, and Cambodia, with additional support from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Rwanda. This year’s prize will be awarded in October from among 338 candidates.
