WASHINGTON D.C. – Walter Reed Army National Medical Center to be redeveloped

The Walter Reed Army National Medical Center has been dormant on a larger property for several years. The District of Columbia was recently able to purchase a 66-acre portion of the former hospital for redevelopment. The redevelopment of the large area purchased by Washington is expected to commence slowly, with the entire project spanning 23-years. About half of the land is expected to go to the U.S. Department of State for use as an international chancery for embassies. The rest of the land is expected to be used for an expansion of Howard University, green space, a supermarket, housing developments and a charter school.
