Typhoon in Japan kills 4

A powerful typhoon struck Japan Wednesday, creating heavy wind and rainfall and killing four people. Japan is still recovering from the earthquake and tsunami that struck earlier this year, which killed more than 15,000 people. The typhoon caused concerns at the Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Daiichi plant, where officials were worried the rain could wash radiation contaminated waters out of the plant.

In the wake of the typhoon, 1 million people were urged to evacuate. Winds were estimated at 103 mph, with downpours of 2 inches an hour. Some areas received 17 inches of water over a day. Four people died in Nagoya, with three from Gisu noted missing.
