Treasurer accused of stealing money fights back
The treasurer who is accused of stealing over 100,000 dollars from D.C Councilmember Michael Brown is fighting back, issuing a lengthy statement criticizing the Councilmember. In the statement he denies all the claims and calls Brown “morally depraved”. While Brown has accused his former treasurer of stealing the money, the police have not made an arrest, and have not accused Hakim Sutton.
In the statement, Sutton’s attorney said “Brown knows for a fact that no money has been stolen and has been less than forthright with the public when it comes to concerns about his campaign finance reports.” He also questioned how someone “could steal over $110k from an experienced incumbent politician over a 12 mo. period and the incumbent not know anything about where the money went or that it was even ‘allegedly’ missing?
