Supreme Court allows same-sex marriage
Justices of the Supreme Court voted to end the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) on Wednesday, giving homosexual couples the same federal benefits as heterosexual couples. The vote was 5-4. The Supreme Court also voted to allow homosexual couples to marry in California.
Today, the majority of Americans support same-sex marriage, with 55% saying same-sex marriages should be recognized by law, according to a Pew survey released recently. Hillary Clinton was excited by the news saying, “By overturning the Defense of Marriage Act, the court recognized that discrimination towards any group holds us all back in our efforts to form a more perfect union.”
