Metro program not working as planned

When the D.C Metro started its Rush Plus program, the goal was to relieve congestion on the busiest metro lines. But the metro is admitting that the program is not working as planned. The problem is with the program itself, but with commuters. Not enough commuters are switching their routes to the fastest ones available, sticking with their normal commutes, causing a major pile up on the blue line in the mornings.

Metro spokesperson Lynn Bowersox said that “It hasn’t been the numbers that we thought it was going to be. We learned that the reluctance to try Yellow [Line] was around the reluctance to transfer.” The Metro will try to get people to switch to the yellow line by giving commuters free fare cards with incentives by switching to the yellow line, all in an effort to relieve the morning commute.
