Frederick officer charged with assault

The Garrett County Sheriff’s Office has charged Frederick police officer Benjamin Whitmore with second-degree assault. Whitmore’s police powers were suspended Sunday, after his arrest. He was later released on bail and police claim Whitmore is on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the criminal and internal investigations being conducted. Police haven’t given any details on either investigation. Whitmore was assigned to the patrol division and had been on the force for five years.
