DC cameras to issue more tickets for violations
Traffic cameras around Washington DC will start allotting more traffic tickets this weekend. Cameras have already issued thousands of tickets for speeding and running red lights, but starting Saturday, the cameras will begin targeting vehicles that block intersections and roll through stop signs. These new traffic violations can bring $50 fines. Cameras will also watch for vehicles failing to yield for pedestrians, passing through intersections at unsafe speeds, and also over-sized buses or trucks that are on streets too small to accommodate them. These violations can bring $250 fines. The cameras have been in place since November but officials have extended the warning period until February 1.
