Cirque du Soleil performer dies after fall

Sarah Guyard-Guillot was pronounced dead on Saturday night after a fall during Cirque du Soleil’s “Ka” performance. Guyard-Guillot fell over 50 feet from the stage of the show.

The accident occurred toward the end of the show, which took place Saturday night at the MGM Grand. The acrobatic performer was being lifted up the side of the stage when she seemed to slip through her safety wire and fall to the pit below the stage.

Audience members thought the fall was part of the show, but afterwards screaming and groaning could be heard from below the stage. The show was brought to a stop, and audience members received refunds and vouchers for future shows.

Guyard-Guillot was a mother of two children and had been a member of the “Ka” cast since 2006. She was an acrobatic performer for over 20 years.
