The AP reports that a child was found dead at a naval station in southern Maryland. The 17-month-old boy was found unresponsive in the back of a vehicle at Naval Air Station Patuxent River around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. This information comes from a press release from the station, which also indicated that station emergency workers performed CPR on the child. The boy was pronounced dead at 4:15.

A Naval Criminal Investigative Service spokesman reported in an email that the boy’s father, who works at the base, left him in the car. NCIS has yet to report how long the boy was there, and continues to investigate.
