A sinkhole that developed Monday night on southbound George Washington Parkway will likely cause the roadway to be closed until late Wednesday morning. Work has begun to repair it, but the rainy weather may slow and disturb the work. Doug Hecox, spokesman for the Federal Highway Administration said the unfavorable conditions will not deter the work, though, and it is possible that the lanes near Route 123 could open up Tuesday evening. Ramps on Interstate 495 and the inner and outer loops to the southbound GW Parkway at Exit 43 have been closed to allow repair crews to work. The hole is about 25 feet wide under the pavement.
