Weapons on ship in Panama were going to North Korea
Cuba’s Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that a shipment of weapons found on a North Korean ship in Panama was going to North Korea “to be repaired and returned to Cuba.” The weapons, which were described as “obsolete,” included two anti-aircraft missile systems, two MiG-21 jets and 15 motors.
The foreign ministry said in a statement, “The agreements subscribed by Cuba in this field are supported by the need to maintain our defensive capacity in order to preserve national sovereignty.” It also emphasized, “The Republic of Cuba reiterates its firm and unwavering commitment with peace, disarmament, including nuclear disarmament, and respect for international law.” North Korea has been banned from importing and exporting weapons by the United Nations.
