Upcoming elections in Georgia and California illustrate the anti-establishment stance taken by GOP candidates. “When you’re head of an organization that has a 15 percent approval rating, you worry,” said Tom Davis, a former Virginia congressman and head of the House GOP campaign committee. Candidates, such as local mayor Drew Ferguson, have branded themselves as “a conservative outsider”, distancing themselves from the Washington Republicans. However, some say that their values still align with those of the GOP’s. “We’re consistent with Republican positions,” said Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, chairman of the House Freedom Caucus. “Why is that a concern?”
