Wal-Mart pulls baby formula amid death concerns

Wal-Mart conducted a voluntary recall of baby formula this week after a baby died in Missouri. The Enfamil-brand formula was purchased from a Wal-Mart in Lebanon, Missouri. Shortly after the purchase, a 10-day-old infant died from a rare bacterial infection. No government recall has been issued. The manufacturer said records showed the lot tested negative for bacterium.

Tests are in progress to determine if the death was caused by the formula, the water used, or another outside factor. “We extend our deepest condolences to this baby boy’s family as they try to come to grips with their loss,” said Dianna Gee, a Wal-Mart spokeswoman.
