Virginia – Fairfax City Council votes unanimously to select new interim mayor

The Fairfax City Council voted unanimously at a special meeting Tuesday night to select former city council member Steven Stombres as the new interim mayor for the City of Fairfax. Stombres will take over for former Mayor Richard Silverthorne, who resigned last week following an arrest and drug charges, and hold the position until a special election on Feb. 7. “Mr. Stombres has served on the council before and has the ability to hit the ground running,” said Councilman Jeffrey Greenfield. “Everyone is saddened by what happened…but the city recognizes that we had a path we had to follow.”
