The University of Maryland briefly evacuated its main administration building Wednesday afternoon in response to what was later proved to be a hoax threat. The university sent out a message advising students and staff to stay away from the building as armed police responded to the threat. Police cleared the scene and declared the threat “unfounded.” University officials revealed that the fake threat came from an anonymous call, and described an armed individual holding a hostage at gunpoint.
