Two hostages in Somalia rescued by U.S. Navy SEALs

Two hostages, American Jessica Buchanan, 32, and Dane Poul Thisted, 62, were rescued in a Tuesday night raid by U.S. Navy SEALs. The two were kidnapped last October while working for the Danish Refugee Council in northern Somalia.

U.S. officials reported that two teams of Navy SEALs landed by helicopter near the compound where the two hostages were held. Gunfire erupted as the SEALs approached the compound and several militants were killed. It is unknown if any of the Americans were wounded. The uninjured hostages were in fairly good condition and flown to a safe and undisclosed location.
