Suspicious activity near Capitol and Reagan Building cleared up

Two suspicious incidents near the U.S. Capitol and Reagan Building prompted police investigations and temporarily shut down Pennsylvania Avenue on Thursday morning. An unknown package was found near the U.S. Capitol by Capitol Police. Farther up Pennsylvania Avenue, a suspicious vehicle attempted to enter Reagan Building grounds.

Capitol Police say a bomb squad loaded the package into a specialized truck, and a police escort will see it taken to Quantico, Va. to render it safe. Roads around the Reagan Building were shut down, interfering with an Occupy D.C. protest in Freedom Plaza.
