Russia refuses to extradite Snowden

The U.S. government’s request to have NSA leaker Edward Snowden extradited from Russia was declined by Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Lavrov declared Russia had no connection to Snowden, insisting Snowden hasn’t crossed the border into Russia. He didn’t identify where Snowden was and became angry, saying, “We consider the attempts to accuse Russia of violation of U.S. laws and even some sort of conspiracy, which on top of all that are accompanied by threats, as absolutely ungrounded and unacceptable.”

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry encouraged Russia on Monday to “do the right thing” and send Snowden back to the United States. U.S. officials still believe Snowden is in Russia.
